Hello John H. Amesse Families,
We hope that you and your family are doing well during this challenging time. As Superintendent Cordova shared last week, DPS has provided updated guidance on how grading will work for students in ECE through 5th grade. We want to share more specific details with you on how grading will work at our school, so you and your student know what to expect in the weeks ahead. We also wanted to update you and remind you about attendance expectations for your child(ren) and our upcoming Spirit Week!
Grading for Trimester 3
Instead of numerical or letter grades, all ECE-5th grade students’ report cards will have written feedback about how a student has or has not demonstrated understanding of the critical learning for the grading period. We will also provide you and your student with feedback throughout the grading period if a student has not initially demonstrated understanding, and share opportunities to do so later in the summer or beyond.
Each teacher will describe how your child(ren) did in their coursework through March, how they progressed through the remainder of the year in remote learning, and the next steps needed as they enter the next grade level. Each teacher will also comment on their engagement and attendance during remote learning.
Our expectations for learning and engagement during remote learning is that your child is completing assignments and checking in with their teacher regarding expectations. If you need modified content or support, please reach out to your teacher. We understand that we do not want to punish your child for circumstances that are beyond their control. However, we also believe in clear communication with your child’s teacher and engagement in the learning. We want your children as prepared as possible to enter their next grade!
If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher for guidance.
Attendance/ Engagement
Teachers will be monitoring attendance and engagement in Infinite Campus. For learners that are engaged in the learning for the day, they will be marked present. For learners that did not engage in the learning for the day, the district has set up a new code in Infinite Campus. This code will be used to show that there was no engagement for that day. All non-engagement codes can be changed if a learner makes up the work. These codes are being used in the district to collect data on access and equity for our learners.
For learners in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade, attendance and engagement can look a number of different ways. It may be engaging in the learning, being present during video chats and reaching out to your teachers. Please reach out to your teacher if you have questions on what attendance/ engagement looks like. ECE children’s engagement will be internally monitored by the teachers and not input into Infinite Campus.
Technology Distribution
