Have a great weekend and remember, our minds are powerful, our voices are powerful, we are powerful, we are John H. Amesse!
From Ms. Trotter, our new Assistant Principal!
Being born and raised in Denver, Colorado in the Montebello community and having attended Denver Public schools as a student has played a major role in me finding my true passion in life. My educational experiences growing up play a major role in molding me into the educator I am today. I hold with me, memories of class projects, group work, Science Fairs, field trips, honor roll ceremonies and community events. I had teachers who cared about me and my success as a student as well as teachers who overlooked me, dismissed me and seen me as just another Black girl sitting in the back row of their classes. I can remember valuable life experiences, lessons learned and the relationships I built with teachers and principals throughout my schooling. I have taught in kindergarten through 4th grade classrooms, lead grade level teams, coached caseloads of teachers and most importantly I have had the opportunity to be a part of the lives of hundreds of children. The very children that will eventually grow up and leave their marks on this world.
Over the last decade I have had so many wonderful experiences and opportunities as an educator. I have also seen firsthand the inequities our students of color face each day. My experiences in diverse schools with diverse populations and diverse circumstances has not only provided me with experience but it has helped me find and use my voice. My teaching philosophies have evolved and over the years I have learned to lead with equity and leveling the playing field for students of color at the forefront. Being this type of educator this type of leader often has meant disrupting systems and challenging the status quo. Being a leader for me, means being an innovative leader who leads through the lens of equity and personal experiences. It means transforming the educational systems which are in place today.
As an educator and leader I have chosen to lead with my eyes open and focus on closing behavioral and achievement gaps for our diverse population of students to ensure our most underserved student populations get the quality education they deserve. I have fought for students and advocated for teachers throughout the course of my career and my educational journey has lead me back home to the community I love so dearly. Over the last five years I have proudly worked for Denver Public Schools in the far northeast/northeast, communities which are at the core of who I am. I connected and reconnected with current leaders, students, families, and educators all with whom I have built lasting relationships.
As a member of the leadership team at John H. Amesse I am humbled and honored to lead alongside other leaders that share the same passion, dedication, and commitment to our students and the Montbello community. The African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child” holds true in my heart and within our school community. We are all a part of guiding and molding our children into who they will become. Educators have the unique opportunity to touch and positively impact the lives of every student they meet and I have the opportunity to help lead the work which will help create the CHANGEMAKERS of tomorrow. My name is Robbin Trotter and I am John H. Amesse!!!
